What Mazda models are best for winter driving?
The winter season is nearly upon us. Here in Ontario, we have the luxury of warm, sunny weather for a good part of the year, but when the weather gets cold lots of us like taking trips a little further up north where the roads can be especially slippery and covered in snow. With that in mind, now would be a good time to talk about winter-capable vehicles if you are looking for a new car. You’re in luck if you are thinking about choosing a Mazda vehicle. At our Pfaff Mazda dealership in London, ON, our customers can find a large selection of new and pre-owned Mazda vehicles that are perfect winter drivers. In this article, we share some information about a few of the best Mazda models for winter driving.

Which model is best for you?
All of Mazda’s models boast impressive performance and engine specs. But which ones might be better suited for the winter roads? Your intuition might tell you that SUVs are much better than cars in the winter. While that is generally true, Mazda’s sedans and hatchbacks can still have above-average winter handling when properly equipped. Throw snow tires or all-season tires on any Mazda and you will have a comfortable drive down that white-covered road.
What about SUVs?
The Mazda CX-9 is the automaker’s best vehicle for winter driving. Why? Torque! 310 lb.-ft. of torque combined with the available all-wheel drivetrain make it ideal for slashing through the winter powder. The CX-3 and CX-5 are also very capable of handling winter driving. The CX-5 is the midsize SUV in Mazda’s lineup and gets an impressive 185 lb.-ft. of torque. Its slightly smaller size and wheelbase give it a minor disadvantage compared to the CX-9, but once you equip the CX-5 with the right tires, you won’t have any issues. Pfaff Mazda has a large selection of SUVs that you can come in and test drive to make sure you are making the right decision for your winter driving needs.
Should I consider a sedan?
Make no mistake, the Mazda3 and Mazda6 sedans can also handle the winter streets. Every car is going to experience some slipping and sliding. You can’t completely avoid that, but Mazda’s all-wheel-drive options can get pretty close to that. All of the choices in Mazda’s lineup offer great performance, affordable pricing, and pristine handling. Take care of your Mazda and throw the right equipment on it, and we don’t think you’ll have many problems this winter.
